Pos Malaysia puts a stamp on Malaysia’s state pride

Pos Malaysia has partnered with Malaysian design brand APOM to launch “A tapestry of Malaysia”, a special Malaysia Day stamp collection featuring 14 designs inspired by Malaysia’s 13 states and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

Inspired by APOM’s #empatbelas initiative, the collection turns 14 original illustrations celebrating local cultural icons, landmarks, traditions and everyday moments into collectible stamps.

Each design captures a theme tied to its respective state or territory, from Johor’s heritage architecture and Kedah’s paddy fields to Kelantan’s 'wayang kulit' ('shadow puppetry'), Melaka’s layered history, Sabah’s biodiversity, Sarawak’s cultural motifs and Kuala Lumpur’s urban landmarks.

The partnership builds on Pos Malaysia and APOM’s existing collaboration, with the two brands previously working together to bring Malaysian culture and heritage into collectible and design-led products. APOM’s presence at the former Kuala Lumpur General Post Office also gives the partnership a physical connection to Pos Malaysia’s heritage, with its flagship store occupying the 119-year-old building following its reopening in May.

The latest collection continues Pos Malaysia’s broader push to make philately more accessible and relevant through collaborations that connect stamps with contemporary Malaysian culture, design and national celebrations.

APOM, short for “A Piece of Malaysia”, is known for its locally inspired merchandise and designs. Through #empatbelas, the brand worked with Malaysian designers to create 14 designs representing the country’s states and Kuala Lumpur, celebrating local identity and state pride through art and design.

The collection is priced at RM35.20 and includes a sheetlet featuring all 14 special stamp designs, comprising 90 sen stamps, a First Day Cover with 14 stamps and special cancellation, an exclusive campaign postcard, an informational flyer and a folder.

It will be available for pre-order via the Pos Malaysia online store from 1 September, and at A Piece of Malaysia (APOM), Pejabat Pos Besar Lama from 16 September. From 17 September, the collection will also be available at 90 Philatelic Bureaus nationwide, including 13 General Post Offices, selected post offices and the Pos Malaysia online store.

Alongside the stamp collection, APOM will release merchandise inspired by the 14 designs, including T-shirts priced at RM68, notebooks at RM15 each or RM40 for a set of three, postcards at RM8 and tote bags at RM40.

Charles Brewer, group chief executive officer of Pos Malaysia Berhad, said, “‘A Tapestry of Malaysia’ is a timely celebration of Malaysia Day, bringing APOM's #empatbelas designs to life as stamps that reflect the unique character of Malaysia's states and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in a way that is fresh, meaningful and collectible.”

“When we started #empatbelas, the idea was simple — to give Malaysian designers a platform to showcase what makes their states unique and express their state pride. Seeing the initiative now become part of Pos Malaysia’s annual Malaysia Day stamp issue is a milestone we’re extremely proud of,” said Chantelle Teoh, founder of APOM.

The latest release follows Pos Malaysia’s recent use of stamps to spotlight Malaysia’s heritage, culture and destinations. In June, the postal service launched a commemorative stamp series for Visit Malaysia 2026 featuring landmarks and cultural icons from across the country, including Langkawi Island, Penang Hill, Cameron Highlands and the Petronas Twin Towers.

The VM2026 collection was designed to promote Malaysia as a diverse tourism destination, while using stamps as a platform to tell stories about the country’s heritage and identity.
