Pos Malaysia has launched "Parrots of Malaysia", a commemorative stamp issue that aims to spotlight Malaysia’s protected parrot species while raising awareness of the country’s natural heritage and wildlife conservation efforts.

Developed in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN), the collection brings together philately and conservation, reflecting both parties’ shared commitment to preserving Malaysia’s biodiversity and ecological balance.

The collection features three protected parrot species native to Malaysia’s rainforests: the long-tailed parakeet, which is fully protected under Act 716 and listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List; the blue-rumped parrot, which is fully protected under Act 716 and listed as Near Threatened; and the blue-crowned hanging parrot, which is protected under Act 716 and listed as Least Concern.

According to Pos Malaysia, parrots play an important role in the ecosystem by aiding seed dispersal and forest regeneration. The company added that the birds are highly valued for their intelligence and distinctive plumage, and are protected under wildlife conservation laws to support their continued survival.

The stamp collection features two illustrated stamp designs, as well as a miniature sheet enhanced with die-cut printing. The die-cut design gives the stamp a shaped edge that mirrors the natural silhouette of the parrots, adding a tactile and visual element to the collection.

The "Parrots of Malaysia" folder set is priced at RM66.30 and includes two stamp designs valued at RM1.00 and RM1.30, featuring the blue-rumped parrot and blue-crowned hanging parrot respectively. The set also includes a miniature sheet, a first day cover bearing the stamps, another first day cover featuring the miniature sheet, and an exclusive folder produced for the release.

The stamps are available from 31 May 2026, in conjunction with World Parrot Day, at 90 philatelic bureaus nationwide, including 13 general post offices, as well as selected post offices and the Pos Malaysia online store.

To support the launch, Pos Malaysia is also collaborating with selected bird parks nationwide to hold first day sales with special "Parrots of Malaysia" commemorative cancellations bearing each park’s name.

First day sales took place at KL Bird Park and Penang Bird Park on 31 May 2026, followed by Langkawi Wildlife Park on 3 June 2026.

Visitors to the selected locations will also be able to access launch promotions at Pos Malaysia counters. At KL Bird Park, customers who purchase the "Parrots of Malaysia" stamp folder set will receive a voucher for 15% off entry tickets in a single receipt.

At Penang Bird Park, every transaction at the Pos Malaysia counter will come with a buy-one-free-one voucher, redeemable with the purchase of entry tickets at the bird park counter. Meanwhile, visitors to Langkawi Wildlife Park who purchase the stamp folder set will receive RM10 off standard ticket prices, with rates reduced to RM30 for adults and RM20 for children.

The launch follows Pos Malaysia’s recent push to turn stamps and postal merchandise into culture-led collectibles. Earlier this year, the national postal operator rolled out its limited-edition Hari Raya 2026 collection under the broader “Serba-Serbi Aidilfitri Lagi” integrated campaign, leaning into childhood nostalgia, balik kampung memories and the festive tradition of duit raya.

That collection expanded beyond traditional stamps to include illustrated envelopes, a philatelic special pack, acrylic charms and the “Kuih krew” plushie series inspired by traditional kuih raya. With "Parrots of Malaysia", Pos Malaysia continues to use collectible design and thematic storytelling to connect its postal heritage with culture, conservation and consumer engagement.
