PoS Malaysia has appointed Yasmin Mahmood (pictured) as independent non-executive chairman of the board. According to several media outlets, her role will be effective on 1 April 2019. A+M has reached out to PoS Malaysia.
She last helmed the role as CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). Mahmood stepped down from the position on 15 January 2019 after more than four years, and said in an earlier statement that she looks to pursue a role with a tech venture in Jakarta. She relinquished her position as CEO and all other positions within MDEC after spearheading the strategy and planning for 2019.
Under her leadership, MDEC embarked and participated in nation-building projects such as the Digital Free Trade Zone to encourage Malaysian SMEs to embrace e-commerce and brought foreign direct investments into Malaysia. She also nurtured the Malaysian technology ecosystem, empowered the future generation with the necessary skills and knowledge via the joint public-private-academia initiative MyDigitalMaker, and encouraged inclusivity amongst the rakyat through initiatives such as eRezeki and eUsahawan.
According to the press statement, a management committee will be activated as part of the transition plan to oversee the agency’s operations during the process of appointing a new CEO. Yasmin said she has put her heart and soul into the role to bring MDEC to a higher level of effectiveness and relevance, not only with the initiatives and strategies we’ve implemented but also with the cultural transformation of the people in MDEC.
