PLUS Malaysia’s Syed Mohammed Idid has vacated his role as head of corporate communications.
He joined the company in 2019 as head of corporate, community and public engagement, a role he occupied till 2021 before starting as head of strategic stakeholder engagement. After a year, Syed moved up to take on the position of head of corporate communications.
Syed’s achievements at PLUS include directing a team of specialists, attaining a 5000% growth on social media platforms with a reach of over 54 million and the formulation of a new crisis comms plan for PLUS and more, according to his LinkedIn.
In a statement to A+M, Syed said that his time at PLUS was “indescribable for any comms practitioner.”
“We are on our toes every day, the experience is invaluable,” he added. He sang praises of his team, stating that it was made of strong professionals who made his job easier every day.

Moving forward, Iskandar Dzulkifli, who is currently the team lead of strategic government advocacy will be stepping into Syed’s position till a final appointment is announced. “Iskandar has been in the company for almost 30 years now, so I am happy to be leaving the team in such good hands. While he is my acting head, I would really love to see him become the actual head as internal is very important for the growth of succession planning,” Syed told A+M.
Before PLUS Malaysia, Syed gained valuable experience in companies ranging from Standard Chartered Bank where he worked as a manager of external affairs to Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia, an insurance protection company.
Commenting on his departure from PLUS on his LinkedIn, Syed said, "You see, in a highway situation every moment is a potential crisis waiting to happen, issues that can blow up (and have blown up) are a daily staple of the corporate communications team's diet. No two traffic incidences are the same and no festive congestion are ever the same in terms of social media flak."
Syed added that he will be taking some time off to relax and rejuvenate before returning to the industry. He has his eyes set on a few prospects but wants to focus on the time off before delving back in and deciding which path to take.
"As I exit the toll highway industry, I will stop for some R&R and smell the coffee, before I decide on my next interchange," he wrote.
