Orchard Central has confirmed that it is currently undergoing a major revamp that is set to complete in the third quarter of 2016.
Mavis Seow, chief operating officer, retail business group, Far East Organisation, told Marketing: “We have embarked on enhancement works at Orchard Central, the first since its opening in 2009. The enhancements started in the fourth quarter of 2015 and will be completed in the third quarter of 2016.”
The mall is said to be reconfigured to include new escalators and walkways to “optimise accessibility and improve shopping experience”.
In addition, Seow said that the mall will be welcoming “a major international brand” slated to open its first Southeast Asia flagship at the mall.
As for the revamp, tenants were informed about the plans in June 2015.
About 15% of the tenants are said to be affected. They were subsequently offered to be relocated within Orchard Central or to alternative Far East Organization malls “to ensure business continuity”. Those affected will have to either relocate or close by 31 December.
According to Seow, majority of the tenants were positive about the change.
The mall hasn’t responded to Marketing‘s additional queries at the time of writing.
