OneDegree's app enhances pet wellness management beyond insurance

The pet insurance company OneDegree has launched a new app called "Pawbook: Diary for Cat & Dog," to create a one-stop pet care experience, enhancing pet wellness management beyond insurance. The app offers free online veterinary consultations, a unique pet MBTI personality test, and seamless integration with pet insurance services.
In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Emily Chow, deputy chief executive, OneDegree said that the app primarily targets cat and dog owners in Hong Kong, particularly those seeking complete pet care solutions. It appeals to tech-savvy individuals interested in recording the funny stories of their pets, tracking health metrics, accessing veterinary advice, and engaging with social features such as the pet MBTI test.
"The app supports pet owners in recording joyful moments, tracking daily health metrics, accessing free online vet consultations, and documenting pet moments, aligning with our mission to simplify pet care and promote lifelong companionship. It also integrates with our insurance platform, fostering customer engagement and supporting our strategic move into the booming pet economy to drive revenue growth and achieve full-year profitability in 2025," she added.
The app's core functionality includes direct integration with OneDegree's insurance platform, enabling users to manage policy details within the application. This streamlined approach simplifies insurance administration while providing holistic pet healthcare management for owners.
“The integration with our insurance platform targets existing and potential pet insurance clients, including multi-pet households and younger demographics , that 67% of our clients are under 40,” Chow said.
"Pawbook" offers a dedicated pet journal for cats and dogs, enabling owners to record their pets' growth milestones. Owners can revisit cherished memories and share them instantly on social platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
The app encourages daily tracking of health metrics such as water intake, food consumption, weight, and sleep duration. It automatically converts this data into visual charts, displaying trends in weight, hydration, and activity levels, enabling owners to detect potential health issues early and provide timely care.
Additionally, "Pawbook" provides online vet consultations with qualified veterinarians, allowing owners to ask about health or behavioural concerns and receive professional advice anytime, ensuring their pets' wellbeing.
Beyond the journal and vet services, one of the app's highlights is the MBTI test. Riding the MBTI craze, where humans discover if they're ENFP or INTJ, pets can now reveal their hidden personalities too. After entering basic pet details, owners answer a few simple questions to uncover their pet's personality type, complete with traits and health tips. Results can be shared on social media, connecting owners with others who have similar pets and fostering a community of pet lovers.

These interactive features are designed to boost online engagement through social sharing. In terms of measuring returns on investment, Chow said that OneDegree will track key metrics such as member growth, Monthly Active Users (MAU), social media activity, and vet consultation usage. The app will also be promoted at the OneDegree x Hello Kitty pet-friendly carnival at Kai Tak AIRSIDE from 8 May to 11 May 2025.
Moreover, celebrating its fifth anniversary, OneDegree has introduced a membership programme with six tiers, ranging from basic members to exclusive "Star Pawbassador" levels for insurance clients. "Pawbook" users receive invitations to pet-friendly events based on their membership tier, creating memorable experiences with their pets. Higher tiers unlock richer rewards, including invitations to exclusive events, unique gifts, and opportunities for pets to become star models.
Chow said, "As pet lovers, we understand that pet owners need a one-stop platform to cherish every moment with their furry friends. At OneDegree, we aspire to be more than an insurance provider—we aim to deliver an all-rounded service for pet owners. With the Pawbook app, we offer a seamless solution to journal precious memories and access to expert vet consultations. Most importantly, we strive to be a trusted partner, supporting pet owners in nurturing lifelong companionship with their beloved pets."
