Nike pits past and present legends against one another in World Cup spot

Ever wondered what would the greatest all-time Nike Football line-up look like, past, present, and future? The sports brand's latest ad for the 2022 World Cup, Footballverse, uses computer graphics to pit new football stars who are playing in the upcoming tournament against legendary football players to determine who the better footballer is using computer graphics.

The video begins with two scientists debating whether French player and PSG star Kylian Mbappe is better than Brazilian legend Ronaldinho. One of the scientists suggested teleporting them into the lab to determine who the better footballer is. The scientists then transformed the warehouse into a football pitch. Ronaldinho was digitally de-aged in the ad to look like how he was during his time with Barcelona.

At the same time, the ad also showed another Brazilian legend, Ronaldo, facing up against Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, along with other legends including Virgil van Dijk and Edgar Davids. A few female football players were also featured including USA's Alex Morgan. Overall, the ad featured a dozen athletes. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Nike for additional information on the campaign.

Through Footballvesre, Nike wants to show that every generation of athletes makes a unique footprint on the game, expands the sport, and inspires future generations to leave their mark.

Separately, Nike recently launched a Web3-enabled platform .SWOOSH that champions athletes and serves the future of sport by creating a new, inclusive digital community and experience and a home for Nike virtual creations. The platform allows athletes, creators, collectors and consumers to design their virtual sportswear, hence co-creating the future of sport with the company. With its own domain "welcome.swoosh.nike", .SWOOSH aims to allow its members to learn about and collect virtual creations including virtual shoes or jerseys in a trusted and safe place.
