Microsoft Singapore makes senior hire

Microsoft Singapore has appointed Colin Cheng as consumer channel group director to continue driving the momentum of its consumer business in Singapore.In his new role, Cheng is directly responsible for overseeing the growth of various business categories for the consumer market.He will manage the OEM, retail, consumer hardware and software and channels with partners such as mobile operators and hosting service providers. Cheng will also develop and implement go-to-market plans for Windows Phone.Cheng is a 30-year veteran of the technology industry. In his previous role spanning over seven years in Apple South Asia, Cheng was the country manager for Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and emerging markets. In his last two years in the role, he was responsible for managing and growing the Retail business in the consumer electronics segment for South Asia.Prior to this, he spent close to six years as director of sales with SupportSoft Asia Pacific, which provides self-healing software solutions to Windows PCs and technology support services for Telcos and MNCs across Asia Pacific. He has also held roles in IBM, where he was previously responsible for the Software Channels business in South Asia and also served as general manager and branch manager for two of the company’s joint-venture, system integrator companies in Singapore.“In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world, there is a need to deliver the best user experience to consumers. Cheng’s addition to the team is indeed timely, and will strongly position us to meet and deliver these expectations. His expertise in leading and managing channel partners and the retail business for major technology companies will undoubtedly be of great value to the team,” said Jessica Tan (pictured), managing director, Microsoft Singapore.
