Microsoft Hong Kong has appointed Maria Hui as its director of marketing and operations, effective 1 August. In this new role, Hui will be leading business operations, marketing strategy, and overall business performance for the various business groups of the Hong Kong subsidiary.Prior to the new appointment, Hui was the director of human resources at Microsoft Hong Kong where she was noted by the company for driving the transformation of workplace and collaboration culture. Hui’s various leadership positions in HR included executive compensation leader and regional human resources partner leader roles. However, before she made a career shift to become a human resources business partner, Hui originally started her career as a management consultant in PwC Consulting (which was later acquired by IBM) with domain expertise in big data and analytics. “Bringing expertise from my previous roles in supporting business transformation, I look forward to helping customers achieve more in the new digital era,” said Hui.“Maria has proven to be a strong people manager and business manager, striving to empower individuals and companies to transform,” said Cally Chan, general manager of Microsoft Hong Kong and Macau. “We’re excited that Maria is taking up bigger responsibility in her new capacity to help our customers and partners on their digital transformation journey in Hong Kong.”Microsoft commented that they hoped the appointment showed its commitment to enabling greater diversity and inclusion in the technology industry. At Microsoft Hong Kong, women now represent over 40% of the overall workforce and 50% of the leadership team.“Achieving higher gender balance in leadership teams enables diverse leadership perspectives, which we believe is critical for organisations to navigate the dynamic digital era,” added Chan. “We’re pleased with the progress we’re making, but there is more to do. With more female talents stepping up to leadership roles at Microsoft Hong Kong, we hope to inspire more women to build careers in technology and fulfil their full potential.”
