LinkedIn Hong Kong has partnered with Microsoft Hong Kong to launch a long-term programme to further promote the importance of wellbeing for talent, particularly in the technology sector.
Aiming to raise awareness on a wide range of topics, including diversity and inclusion, health and wellness at work, social impact, workplace trends, leadership, as well as career planning and development, the programme includes a year-long series of free webinars on Microsoft Teams with speakers from both companies, and experts from external organisations such as CareER.
Networking activities such as book clubs, meditation and yoga classes, will also be arranged later.
“Faced with the new realities of working from home, home-schooling of children and a lack of physical contact with other family members, friends, and colleagues, it is important that we look after our mental, as well as our physical, health,” said Cally Chan, general manager of Microsoft Hong Kong and Macau.
“As companies are restarting growth, with remote working becoming the new normal, business leaders should also provide support to their employees as we transition to this new phase of business operations.”
COVID-19 has changed people’s lives, including causing fear, worry and stress, as they cope with various measures to maintain social distancing. In a survey conducted by the University of Hong Kong between March and April, more than 40% of respondents had shown symptoms of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, or any combination of the three.
“Having the right mindset is very important during this period. Professionals should remain resilient and focus on powering through this time. One way to do this is to set clear goals for yourself, and that includes time for self-care,” said Feon Ang, vice-president of talent and learning solutions for Asia Pacific at LinkedIn.
“Organisations should also look to keep their culture alive and be ready to provide support for their employees. After all, their employees now have more responsibilities now in a workday – on top of working from home, they also have to ensure the wellbeing of their parents and children.”
