Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has appointed Malaysian Olympic cycling medallist Dato’ Azizulhasni Awang as the official ambassador for MHsports, the sports travel programme under its flagship airline, Malaysia Airlines.
Known affectionately as the "pocket rocketman," Azizulhasni is Malaysia’s first Olympic cycling medallist and a celebrated national icon. His appointment marks the launch of a strategic initiative aimed at championing local sporting excellence and strengthening Malaysia Airlines’ identity as a supporter of national pride and unity through sports.

The partnership will see Malaysia Airlines support Azizulhasni in his training and participation in international competitions, while also featuring him in brand campaigns and youth engagement efforts. As MHsports ambassador, he will play a role in inspiring the next generation of athletes through outreach and public initiatives that promote sports as a unifying force, MAG said in a statement.
“Malaysia Airlines remains deeply committed to supporting national sports development,” said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, group managing director of MAG. “We are honoured to welcome national cycling icon, Dato’ Azizulhasni Awang, as the official MHsports ambassador. His relentless drive, unshakeable perseverance, and resilience mirror the values we hold at Malaysia Airlines.”
Azizulhasni’s decorated career includes a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, a silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, a UCI World Championship title, and multiple podium finishes across World Cup and Asian Championships. Off the track, he has been a vocal advocate for youth empowerment, often sharing his journey through school programmes and public speaking engagements.
MHsports, launched under Malaysia Airlines, provides tailored travel solutions for sports travellers—offering perks such as discounted fares, additional baggage for sporting gear, and flexible booking terms to support athletes and teams in their international pursuits.
The collaboration reflects MAG’s broader vision to be more than a transport provider, instead positioning itself as an active enabler of national talent and a contributor to Malaysia’s growing presence on the global sporting stage.
Azizulhasni seems to be in high demand, as Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) also just named him as its first-ever brand ambassador. The automotive company said in a statement that the partnership is anchored in shared values: performance, precision, and the pursuit of progress, with VPCM highlighting that Azizulhasni’s journey from Dungun to Olympic podiums mirrors Volkswagen’s ethos of turning dreams into reality through grit, innovation, and resilience.
The partnership will see Azizulhasni featured in upcoming brand campaigns, activations and digital content, serving not only as the face of Volkswagen in Malaysia but as a rallying point for a new generation of customers who value both heritage and ambition.
