Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN) has partnered with over-the-top (OTT) video service Viu to broadcast three Viu Originals in Malaysia this year.
The shows Salon, Jibril and The Bridge will be aired in September, October and November 2018 respectively on NTV7 and Viu on the same day.
Viu’s OOT video service focuses on localised regional and local premium TV shows, spanning Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, India, Middle East and parts of Africa. According to Kingsley Warner, Vuclip Malaysia’s general manager, the partnership aims to change the misconception that OTT videos exist to challenge the TV industry. Warner said that the company sees “real synergies” between digital audiences and linear TV in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, MPTN’s chief executive Johan Ishak said the partnership came about as consumers wanted quality and localised content. He added that the partnership could lead to more “notable dramas” such as TV3’s Nur being developed. MPTN also projects a highly targeted digital reach through Viu’s platform.
