Maxus Asia Pacific has appointed Glynn Honey (pictured right) as managing director of its Malaysia office. Honey takes over the role from Lorraine Capel who left the agency late last year. Ajit Varghese, Maxus CEO Asia Pacific has confirmed the appointment to A+M.
Honey will report to both Varghese and CEO of GroupM Malaysia Girish Menon.
Honey joins Maxus Malaysia following a stint at M&C Saatchi Australia for over two years where he was the MD for the agency. Prior to that, Honey was CEO, Australia and New Zealand of mobile marketing agency Joule for a year. He also Isobar Australia as managing director for two years.
This follows on from another senior appointment made earlier with Eileen Ooi (pictured left) joining the team as general manager.
Varghese, CEO, Maxus Asia Pacific, said the appointments are strategic for Maxus Malaysia and in keeping with the agency’s “lean into change philosophy”.
“We have a digital native (Honey) now leading the agency into the future and helping Maxus evolve the product and thinking. We have a young and energetic Ooi who is helping translate the thinking into client strategy and delivery across platforms. I am absolutely confident that together as a team they can lead the change and action-based planning for our clients,” he added.
Girish Menon, CEO GroupM Malaysia said: “We took a conscious decision to hire a digital native to lead Maxus Malaysia. As digital platforms increasingly sit at the heart of our communications solutions, it is important to have a leader who lives and breathes a digital-first philosophy.”
Maxus is part of WPP’s media investment company Group M. Recently several agencies under Group M have seen a change in leadership. Mindshare Malaysia appointed Varun Channa, to the role of managing director where he took over the role from Gerald Wittenberger who returned to Europe at the end of 2014.
MEC Malaysia’s managing director Law Chan Keong also recently left the company and currently no replacement has been named for Law.
