Mastercard has formed a collaboration with Macau’s Yeng Kee Bakery to donate face masks to charity for every mooncake purchase at the bakery's online shop.

Until 20 September, a box of face masks will be donated after cardholders of Mastercard in both Hong Kong or Macau after spending MOP300 (HK$292) or above on mooncakes at Yeng Kee Bakery's online shop.

The face masks will be delivered to Ronald McDonald House Charities, an independently registered NGO in Hong Kong that aims to protect the health of those in need and lessen their burdens.

"As part of its mission to enrich the daily lives of consumers, Mastercard continually looks for more opportunities to provide safe, secure and convenient payment services, especially as people adjust their lifestyles and habits to fit the new normal," said Helena Chen, Mastercard's managing director for Hong Kong and Macau.

"This initiative adds an extra layer of goodwill to this year’s celebration of the mid-autumn festival, it also further underlines Mastercard’s commitment to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility in these challenging times."

As consumers’ needs evolve and adapt to the new normal amid COVID-19, Mastercard has seen the rising demand for contectless payment. A recent worldwide consumer survey conducted by Mastercard found that 46% of consumers in APAC were planning to permanently use cash less often, with a large number of respondents planning to make more purchases online.
