Chief operating officer (COO) of Malaysia AirlinesPeter Bellew is taking on the role of executive director for the Malaysia Airlines board, following the departure of CEO Christoph Mueller.
Bellew took on the role of COO in 2015 after a nine-year stint at Irish low-cost airline Ryanair; where he served as director of flight operations. He was also Ryanair’s former head of sales and marketing to help boost brand awareness.
As part of the airline’s restructuring programme following the devastating loss of two air crafts in 2014, MAS hired both Mueller and Bellew to help turn things around. About 6,000 jobs were shed in the restructuring process after the airline’s privatisation, about a third of the MAS workforce.
Meanwhile Khazanah, as the sole shareholder of MAB will, in consultation with the MAB Board and the Government, will now undertake the succession planning for the new CEO of MAB.
