Marvel Malaysia promotes Avengers with record-breaking light show at KL Tower

Marvel Malaysia lit up Kuala Lumpur skyline with displays of superhero icons the night before the premiere of the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame in Malaysia today. Making use of 300 drones, the move by Marvel Malaysia made it to the Malaysia Book of Records for “The Most Drones Used in a Light Show".

Superheroes that have made an appearance include Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk. The light show was a media preview to a full display on 26 April at the KL Tower at 8pm and 10pm. Marvel Malaysia partnered Intel to produce the show.

The move seems to have garnered good response with many netizens uploading their clips of the show onto YouTube. Marvel Malaysia's Facebook post asking fans to "stand together with Avengers" yesterday also saw 8400 reactions and 2300 shares.

The drone light show was brought to life by The Walt Disney Company through their advertising firm, dentsu X Malaysia. Speaking exclusively to A+M, the agency said the move is to commemorate the culmination of  a story told across 22 films in 11 years.

CEO of dentsu X Malaysia Yap Chee Weng added, “This is the finale of the most epic story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s befitting that we give it an equally epic and memorable celebration to mark the movie premiere. We’re thrilled to be given the opportunity to collaborate with the team at The Walt Disney Company to bring this exciting project to life. Here’s hoping everyone gets to experience and enjoy this dazzling display of lights and technology, one way or another!”

Last year, Disney also brought the Avengers experience into the city centre with a light show at Suria KLCC to celebrate the the opening of Avengers: Infinity War. Telekom Malaysia also seized the opportunity to promote its brand and highlight the unique architecture of its Menara TM headquarters by flashing the Avengers logo on the tower.
