Classic online game MapleStory R: Evolution is getting even more nostalgic with the appointment of Phua Chu Kang actor Gurmit Singh as its new brand ambassador of Singapore and Malaysia, according to Singh in an Instagram post.

Singh was announced as brand ambassador alongside Thai YouTuber Bie the Ska who has been appointed as the game's Thai region Maple presenter.

In his social media post, Singh said that he had something exciting to share with followers and noted that he would be brand ambassador of Singapore and Malaysia for the "the most exciting RPG game in 2023, MapleStory R: Evolution".

He then invited followers to preregister for the game and noted that they could stand to win exclusive Zakum Outfits and SSR pets.

Fans will also be able to enter a special code tacked to Singh to get a special gift in-game.

"There will be something special coming [up] soon as well. Please stay tuned [to] their official page," Singh wrote.

Singh's appointment comes as more classic games are looking to rebrand themselves to cater to a more modern audience. Recently, virtual pet site Neopets revealed that it would be launching a comeback under a new management system TNT as it looks to "breathe fresh life into Neopia." It will now be an independent company called World of Neopia, Inc and will no longer be managed by JumpStart or owned by NetDragon.

"For most of the last decade, the Neopets Team has been under the management of JumpStart Games, which, over time, has struggled to find success for Neopets," said Neopets in a statement.

It noted that beset by ageing site features, a waning user base, and a lack of resources, it had to work "tirelessly" just to "barely keep the site afloat".

"The resources available to us simply weren’t substantial enough to sustain the level of growth and development that the site needed to keep up with the times, resulting in bugs, unconverted pages, broken games, and a lack of new content," it said.
