According to Malaysian media, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has declared himself to be "depressed" with the proliferation of online media. Najib claims that the online media is more concerned with the speed of news as opposed to accuracy."I am depressed, politicians are depressed because we are easy targets. The print media loses out on circulation and we lose out on votes," he was quoted saying on The Malay Mail Online. The comments come as Malaysia's Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) comes under the spotlight for property scandal. Chairman Mohammad Lan Allani and chief executive Abdul Halim Rahim have been recently dropped from the organisation. Mara was originally set up to help in providing financial assistance to Malays and push for development of the Malay community.According to Malaysian Digest, online media had earlier reported that Mara chairman Annuar Musa said that over-inflated purchases was approved by Datuk Seri Najib as finance minister. These remarks were later accused of misreported.
