L’Occitane educates the public about plastic waste at its first sustainability concept store

Plastic waste has been an increasingly important issue for many communities, and some brands are doing their part to help protect the environment. Beauty and cosmetics retailer L’Occitane has opened a concept store in Hong Kong, inviting the public to join forces in reducing plastic waste and support the local sustainable plastic economy, green NGOs and projects.

Located at Pacific Place, the Mega Sustainability Concept Store offers a wide range of services and activities. It engages the public in a fun way with the "#MEGA Sustainability Reward Programme", through which shoppers can earn rewards by completing green tasks, tossing empty beauty products into recycle bins at the store, making a green new year wish or commitment with the Tree of Wishes, or undergoing a three-minute personal carbon footprint evaluation.

Collaborating with different green groups or individuals, the store will also regularly host a series of pop-up eco-themed workshops to inspire the public. 

"In L’Occitane, our societal and environmental commitment focuses on the protection of biodiversity and reduction of our environmental carbon and plastic
footprint," said Nathaëlle Davoust, general manager of L’Occitane Hong Kong and Macau. 

The brand has also collaborated with local charitable organisation A Plastic Ocean Foundation, offering an upcycling project that aims to transform post-consumed plastics into rPET products. L’Occitane has provided 40kg of PET collected from customers to A Plastic Ocean Foundation for recycling into rPET products in the future. To support the initiative, the majority of L’Occitane's stores are offering in-store recycling. 

"We share a vision of keeping plastics in the economy and out of the ocean. The store is like our invitation to the Hong Kong public to explore how we can reduce plastic pollution together," added Davoust.
