Ongki Kurniawan, who previously served as the chief digital officer at XL Axiata, has been appointed as Line Indonesia’s first managing director. He has substantial strategic, managerial, and operational experience in the telecommunications, information technology and financial industry.
Kurniawan (pictured) started his career in Citibank and last held the position of assistant vice president. Post that, he worked as principal for The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and led a number of strategic consulting projects in telecommunications and banking field in several countries in Asia and Europe.
At PT XL Axiata, he began his career as SVP corporate strategy and business development in 2009, and was slowly promoted as the chief digital services officer. He was also on the board member of Adknowledge Asia Pacific and Elevania.
Kurniawan’s marketing strategy for the company will be customised to be very local and entrenched with Indonesian culture. The company provides a digital platform through its various services, including Line Official Account, Line Shopping, Line Games. Kurniawan’s appointment is seen as an effort to support Indonesia’s creative economy sector.
“In order for us to become the number one smart portal in Indonesia, our strategy is to become the most preferred communications platform by millennials,” said Kurniawan.
