Lilian Leong, managing director of IPG Mediabrands Hong Kong, has stepped down for a new role as global COO at 9gag, starting August.
Leong, who took on the role of managing director in 2013, stepped down from the role on 14 July.
She confirmed the news with Marketing and said the replacement for her role has yet to be announced.
Under her leadership, she has led the agency through some of its most awarded years, including winning two gold awards at Marketing‘s Agency of the Year 2016.
“I’m very grateful to be part of the IPG team and 2016 is the best year for the company.”
She will join the meme-sharing website 9gag in early August as chief operating officer, based out of Hong Kong.
“I’m so excited to get started in my new job and the UCG platform will be an exciting area to explore,” Leong added.
Back then, Leong was general manager of Leo Burnett Hong Kong and best known for setting up a digital and activation arm that led to a phenomenal revenue growth for the agency.
