Sheng Tai International has partnered with Parisian fashion house KARL LAGERFELD to open a KARL LAGERFELD Tower which comprises a luxury hotel and branded residences to reinvigorate Malacca’s fashion and hospitality landscape.

The KARL LAGERFELD Tower is set to be part of Malacca’s The Sail, an integrated property development consisting of nine towers which aims at establishing Malacca's position as a vibrant and thriving fashion city in the region, according to the brand.

“Making Malacca a centre for fashion, while leveraging the city’s uniquely rich heritage and culture, is our vision,” said Leong Sir Ley, chairman and president of Sheng Tai International.

Leong also added, “Our long-term goal is to not only nurture local talent, but also welcome global investments, creating a wave of opportunity and prosperity in the country.”

The announcement took place at an event at the Encore theatre in Malacca this week with chief minister of Malacca, Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, and Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of KARL LAGERFELD, in attendance.

When expressing his excitement for the partnership, Righi said that his conversations with Leong affirmed their shared commitment to collectively create something extraordinary which is a testament to their joint contribution and dedicated efforts.

Righi also noted that when Leong shared her aspirations, he felt Karl Lagerfeld's palpable presence in the room, as both Karl and their esteemed house have always been driven by the belief of embracing the present and inventing the future.

The Sail Malacca along with Encore theatre will form the 165.5 acres City of Hope and is part of Leong’s ambitions for the state’s future as an international hub for fashion, wellness, AI, art and culture.

“This project is important not only for Sheng Tai, Yong Tai Berhad or KARL LAGERFELD, but also for this historical state, its property and tourism industries and the community at large,” said Yusoh.

Sharing similar sentiments to Leong, Yusoh emphasised that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to transform the state into a premier destination for travelers, while simultaneously establishing it as a prime investment hub.

Developments to position Malacca as a fashion city are already in full swing after American luxury fashion brand Coach launched a new air travel themed boutique called Coach Airways at Freeport A'Famosa Outlet in Malacca.

Located in an actual airplane, the themed boutique space is decked out in Coach’s vintage iconography with a cockpit and aircraft seats along with racks of their apparel and bags. Customers have to take an air bridge to enter the boutique and will be given an entry pass that resembles a plane ticket upon entry.
