New World Development’s K11 ARTUS, a luxury residence concept set to open in summer 2019 at Victoria Dockside, has appointed Christopher Sommers as general manager. He will bring his global hospitality expertise, project management skills and 17 years of industry experience to his new role.
Throughout his career, Sommers has been focusing on operating and launching luxury properties around the globe, from the US and Portugal to Russia and China. Prior to joining K11 ARTUS, Sommers has worked as general manager at the Ritz-Carlton Haikou where he oversaw the pre-opening and operation of the brands first golf resort in China.
During his four-year stint at the Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou, the hotel earned a five-star rating from the Forbes Travel Guide under his leadership. Sommers was also involved in opening a number of Ritz-Carlton properties in Chengdu, Tianjin, Haikou, Kyoto and Macau.
Paul Cunningham, general manager of hospitality and portfolio management of New World Development, commented on Sommers’ appointment: “With expertise in overseeing pre-opening and operating luxury hotels, his professional leadership is key in the successful launch of this pioneering hospitality concept, and the development of innovative operational strategies that follow.”
“I am thrilled to be part of K11 ARTUS, a groundbreaking project that will redefine the concept of hotel & serviced apartments set amidst the new art & cultural district of Hong Kong,” said Sommers. “A refined intuitive service experience fueled by the passion of our Artisans combined with the incredible design of open-air living spaces will set a new benchmark for the luxury traveller.”
“To me, ARTUS is more than a space to live, it represents a key component of the Victoria Dockside’s extended community; an ecosystem of art, culture and design. Bringing the project to fruition has brought me a new state of mind, and I am excited to lead the team towards inspiring others,” he added.
