Jollibee has partnered with DreamWorks Animation around the worldwide theatrical release of Forgotten Island, connecting the brand with the animated film’s themes of friendship, family and Filipino-inspired storytelling.

For the fast-food giant, the partnership extends its positioning around food and shared experiences into an entertainment property.

“Great stories and great food both have a way of bringing people together,” said David Beal, Jollibee Group global chief marketing officer and head of digital marketing. “With DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, we’re inviting friends and families to celebrate the joy of friendship - from watching the film to sharing a delicious Jollibee meal together. It is a simple expression of what Jollibee has always stood for: serving great-tasting food and bringing the joy of eating to everyone.”

Forgotten Island follows lifelong best friends Jo and Raissa, who are transported through a mysterious portal to Nakali, a fantastical island populated by mythical creatures inspired by stories from their Filipino families.

After discovering that returning home could cost them the memories of their friendship, the pair must find a way off the island without forgetting one another.

The film features Filipino and Filipino-American talent including Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, comedian Jo Koy, Grammy and Academy Award winner H.E.R., actress Liza Soberano, and co-writer and co-director Januel Mercado.

The Filipino connection also carries into the film’s music. BINI, the Filipino girl group and Jollibee endorser, contributed “A Parallel World” to the Forgotten Island soundtrack.

The electronic-pop track, which combines English and Filipino lyrics, was released on 23 July. BINI subsequently performed it during the film’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July, while its music video features Jollibee and the group sharing meals and candid moments during their time in the US for the recording and related activities.

The collaboration gives Jollibee several touchpoints around the film beyond a conventional brand tie-in, linking its existing relationship with BINI to the film’s Filipino talent and narrative.

“At Jollibee, we value partnerships that allow us to collaborate with world-class brands and create experiences that genuinely resonate with our customers,” said Dorothy Ching, vice president for marketing at Jollibee Philippines. “Our partnership with DreamWorks is especially meaningful because Forgotten Island brings together universal themes of friendship and family with Filipino-inspired storytelling. We are proud to be part of this global collaboration and excited to bring the spirit of the film to Jollibee communities around the world.”

Further elements of the collaboration are still to come, including an exclusive Jollibee offer tied to the film. Additional details will be announced in due course.

DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island is distributed by Universal Pictures and arrives in cinemas globally on 23 September.
