INTI International University & Colleges’ latest Raya spot titled “Dugaan Raya Universiti“, features a fictional lecturer named Mr Joshua who is infamously known for being unsympathetic towards his students surrounding toilet breaks and festive seasons. For many years, students have tried years to convince him to dismiss them earlier for the holidays. The 12-minute spot shows Joshua uncharacteristically agreeing to dismiss the class earlier for Raya, under the condition that one of his students must successfully convince him to buy an RM1.50 pen for RM150. The video then reveals the students coming together and devising a successful plan that ultimately convinces Mr Joshua to dismiss them earlier without negotiation.Since its release on 31 May, the video has garnered nearly 300,000 views in a span of two days on both INTI’s official Facebook page and MTAS Productions Youtube page.https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=698724213875306INTI’s senior VP of marketing, products and partnerships, Timothy Johnson, said that its video aims to highlight the cultural nuances of the Hari Raya celebration in Malaysia along with the realities of university students prior to the holidays. In Malaysia, the Hari Raya celebration is known to be a festive season that represents camaraderie, team-spirit, collaboration, and togetherness. This is a festivity that would involve an entire village coming together to prepare rendang and lemang before dressing up and celebrating as one on the first day of Raya, Johnson said. As such, INTI wanted to demonstrate that same team spirit and togetherness through the lens of its own students, he added.“I believe we were able to encapsulate that message while maintaining our usual element of fun and humour which resonates best with a younger audience. This was also made possible through our collaboration with Kokom, who is a well-known Malay content creator and has a Youtube following of over 300,000 subscribers,” Johnson said.According to Johnson, the video also has a subtle take at highlighting how it exercises teaching and learning at INTI through the design thinking model. He said that design thinking encourages students to think creatively outside the box and develop innovative solutions from challenging tasks using a strategic process. “With the students eventually coming together to devise a non-negotiable and creative solution, it perfectly exemplifies how students are taught here at INTI,” he said.
