Instagram is bringing ads into search results and rolling out 'Reminder Ads'

Instagram has introduced two new ad products that will give businesses more ways to get discovered and to form meaningful connections with its consumers. Focusing on the introduction of reminder ads and ads in the app's search results, the products are set to help users discover new brands, products and upcoming events.

Reminder ads is a new way for businesses to announce, remind and notify people of future events or launches that they might be interested in, according to a statement by the platform. It noted that it is already testing the new ad format by partnering with brands such as Starz as it prepares to roll out the feature to advertisers as an option in feed.

With reminder ads, consumers can opt to receive reminders and three notifications from Instagram one day before, 15 minutes before, and at the time of the event.

Instagram has also begun to test out including ads in its search results in order to actively reach people searching for a particular business, product or content. Ads will show up in the feed that people can scroll when they tap into a post from search results, according to Instagram.

The platform plans to launch this placement globally in the coming months.

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out for more information.

The news comes just two months after Instagram announced that it would be revamping its navigation bar once again. The platform said that it would be removing its shopping tab from the main bar at the bottom of its screen. The Reels tab was set to replace the shop tab.

While this may seem new, Instagram actually began testing out a main feed without the shopping button from September last year when it attempted to simplify the user experience. The test was part of a larger pivot away from its shopping features, according to an internal memo seen by The Information. Saying that, shopping is still part of the app. It simply will no longer have a prominent spot on the home feed.

“You will still be able to set up and run your shop on Instagram as we continue to invest in shopping experiences that provide the most value for people and businesses across feed, stories, reels, ads and more,” Instagram said on its support page.
