Instagram apologises for bug outrage

Instagram has apologised for its internal bug which caused its users to lose access and followers from their accounts.   According to a report on Reuters, there were thousands of users who saw their accounts suspended for about eight hours. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Instagram for additional information on the bug issues.

A check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that there were over 7,000 reports of outrages in the United States. While other countries in APAC such as Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore reportedly had over 400 reports on the real-time online service Downdetector in the last 24 hours.

The social media platform's communications team shared on its Twitter account that, it has resolved the bug that affected many people in different parts of the world. However, after its Tweet, there were responses from Twitter netizens who said their accounts haven't been resolved.

Separately, when Meta was still known as Facebook, it was trolled by Twitter last year when Facebook's platforms Instagram and WhatsApp went dark in a global outage that lasted for about six hours. Twitter savoured the moment with a playful tweet, as netizens turned to its platform with nowhere else to go.

According to CNA, ad measurement firm Standard Media Index reported that Facebook was then losing about US$545,000 in ad revenue per hour in the US alone during the outage.
