In a move toward industrial transformation, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has made history by hosting the country's first-ever Indonesia AI Day for the Mining Industry in Jakarta. Held on 24 April, the event marked a major milestone in the national movement toward AI-powered development—particularly in one of Indonesia's most strategic and traditionally analogue sectors: mining.

Bringing together hundreds of attendees, including industry leaders, government officials, and global tech partners, the forum was built around the theme "Navigating the Future of Indonesia's Mining Industry." It served as a springboard for cross-sector collaboration aimed at fast-tracking digital adoption, boosting operational efficiency, and embedding sustainability into the heart of mining operations.

Speaking during the keynote, Rosan Roeslani, Indonesia's minister of investment and downstreaming and head of BKPM, underlined the government's support for such private-led digital initiatives. "We appreciate Indosat's concrete initiative through Indonesia AI Day for the Mining Industry. This initiative reflects the private sector's real contribution to industrial transformation through advanced technology," he said.

"AI has become a strategic necessity to enhance competitiveness, particularly in the mining sector, and to support the transition to environmentally friendly energy. The government will issue policies on AI adoption and foster human capital development, involving all stakeholders," added Roeslani.

This high-level backing signals a growing recognition of AI's role in reshaping Indonesia's economic engines. For Indosat, the occasion was more than a showcase—it was a call to action.

"As a company transforming into an AI TechCo, we believe the future of Indonesia's mining industry will be deeply shaped by technology adoption," said Vikram Sinha (pictured), president director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. "Through Indonesia AI Day for the Mining Industry, we aim to build an intelligent, secure, and sustainable ecosystem while ensuring this digital transformation drives equitable and inclusive economic growth."

The event's agenda spanned a series of panel discussions and strategy forums, featuring contributions from top voices such as Meutya Hafid (minister of communication and digital affairs), Rachmat Makkasau (president director of Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara), Tri Winarno (director general of minerals and coal at the ministry of energy and mineral resources), and experts from McKinsey & Company.

Speakers shared both insights and urgency. The mining sector—long seen as a mainstay of Indonesia's GDP—must now confront a future defined by automation, data analytics, and real-time operational visibility. The conversation turned toward how AI and IoT can align mining operations with global sustainability goals.

The stakes are high: Indonesia is rich in resources, but global competitiveness demands more than extraction—it demands innovation. The hope, according to Indosat, is that forums such as this can help unlock cross-industry partnerships and accelerate the growth of a homegrown AI ecosystem.

At its core, Indonesia AI Day for the Mining Industry was less about the tools and more about the shared vision: a digitally advanced, environmentally responsible, and globally respected mining sector.
