Indonesian event management company GM Production Indonesia has offered virtual wedding ceremonies for consumers who are looking to get hitched during this period. GM production created an ad detailing its virtual wedding, which featured the bride and groom holding their wedding in a room filled with green screens. The wedding was also live-streamed to the couple’s family and friends, and can hold up to 1,000 guests.

The ad was posted GM Production’s YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram account. It has garnered 3,764 views on Instagram at the time of writing.

According to GM Production, the ceremony and reception will be held at its studio, and the live-streaming link will be provided to the wedding guests. The “decoration” of the wedding ceremony will be done with green screen technology, and the couple can choose the desired decoration template. The company will also provide a LED TV so that the bride and groom can interact with each other digitally before the ceremony. As for catering and souvenirs, the company said it will provide delivery to each house.

In a statement to Marketing Interactive, Ridho Sinto, director of GM Production Indonesia said the idea to hold virtual weddings came about as it was unable to have business as usual with the restrictions from the government. Seeing as Indonesians are still looking to get married, the company saw virtual weddings as an opportunity to earn revenue during this time. He added that the response for virtual weddings has been good, and there are six interested couples at the time of writing. Ridho said the challenge when it comes to holding virtual weddings lies in maintaining a good connection when it is held in a rural area. Also, since there are still many people involved in the virtual wedding, such as the organising team, make-up and bridal team, and the couple's families, another challenge is to observe social distancing regulations during the wedding itself.

This shift to virtual weddings comes as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many brands, especially in the events and experiential sector, to take a hit. Adapting to the pandemic, brands have gotten creative with their daily operations, choosing to hold virtual events, using digital platforms for marketing efforts, and even remote shooting for their ads.

Two weeks ago, Indonesian telco Indosat Ooredoo launched a Ramadan campaign done virtually to lift everyone’s spirits amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Titled ‘Silaturahmi Setiap Hari’ which means friendship every day, the spot features four young Indonesian singers - Hindia, Sal Priadi, Kunto Aji and Yura Yunita.
