Multi-platform company IDN Media which targets youths has acquired Indonesian eSports media site GGWP.ID to tap into the industry’s “massive growth”. GGWP.ID will have four main business units: eSports Media for enthusiasts, eSports Tournament Platform for event organisers, eSports Team for professionals, and multi-platform digital agency eSports Creative. The agency will focus on brand storytelling, content creation, and online activation.According to a press release, the number of players, enthusiasts, content creators, and brands have been increasing in Indonesia. IDN Media founder and CEO Winston Utomo said: “We believe that the eSports phenomenon has just begun. With GGWP.ID, we envision to create the biggest and most impactful eSports company in the region for Millennials and Gen Z.”Through the acquisition, IDN Media aims to build more awareness and exposure of the opportunities that eSports can bring to the society. Envisioning GGWP.ID to be the “ESPN” of eSports in Indonesia, the company also looks to change the stereotypical perception that playing games brings negative impact. ESports can improve intelligence, teamwork, focus, and strategic thinking, it explained.Ricky Setiawan, who is the founder of GGWP.ID, will retain his role as the CEO of a 60-people team. “IDN Media can help us reach more audience and accelerate our vision to make eSports available for everyone,” he said. GGWP.ID also hosts the Game Prime gaming event in Indonesia, together with BEKRAF (Badan Ekonomi Kreatif) Republik Indonesia, IACE (Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy) and AGI (Asosiasi Game Indonesia).Meanwhile, last week, Yummy, a food-focused media owned and operated by IDN Media, launched the Yummy App last week. The app is designed to solve issues faced by Millennials and Gen Z who want to cook and comes with many “social” features. Yummy has gained a sizable presence on social media since 8 July 2016, with over 3.3 million followers.
