IBM Studios, a new design centre which aims to help clients reinvent their business for the digital age, is up and running and will serve as the regional hub for Asia, based out of Singapore.
IBM Studios Singapore will host more than 100 designers and digital experts from IBM iX (Interactive Experience). It will also help develop individualised experiences through a combination of cognitive capabilities and experience design.
It joins the growing network of 30 IBM Studios across the globe, including locations such as Bangalore, Dubai, Toronto, Melbourne, Mexico City, London, New York and Shanghai. Joining this network are recent IBM iX acquisitions of Aperto, Bluewolf, ecx.io and Resource/Ammirati.
Clients will work side-by-side with teams of IBM creative designers, researchers, digital strategists, analytics and cognitive solution experts to analyse their business challenges and co-create new business models and offerings.
The new team has already started working with brands such as Singapore Airlines to implement two mobile applications for its pilots.
Its ‘FlyNow’ app will support the pilots in flight preparation and provide relevant and timely operation information, while the ‘Roster’ app will enhance pilot awareness of their assigned duties, along with their qualification compliance for operations.
IBM iX applies the principles of IBM Design Thinking, which takes a rapid prototyping approach to user-centric product development, as well as IBM Design Language, a framework to inspire bold and engaging experiences.
According to Phil Gilbert, general manager of IBM Design, IBM Design Thinking is the company’s approach to applying design thinking at the speed and scale the modern enterprise demands.
“It’s a framework for bring multi-disciplinary teams together to solve some of the world’s toughest problems in new ways,” Gilbert said.
“Our designers work with clients through the customer experience from strategy, creative and design to scalable digital, commerce, mobile and wearable platforms. We sit side-by-side with our clients and partners to invent and co-create personalised, innovative solutions using IBM’s leadership in cognitive, research and design to take digital experiences to the next level for clients, ” Stefan Hirsch, ASEAN Lead for IBM iX said.
