How Tiger Beer is turning personal stories of courage into a shared experience

Tiger Beer is taking its digital “Roar with courage” campaign into the physical world, turning an activation built around personal stories into a live music festival bringing together artists and consumers on 31 October.

The Tiger Roar Asian Music Festival will take place at the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) in Seri Kembangan, with a line-up spanning rock, R&B, M-pop and hip-hop. Hong Kong rock icon and Beyond member Paul Wong and Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter and rapper ØZI will headline the festival, alongside Malaysian acts 3P, ManHanD, Dato’ Maw, Elva Suyan and S.A.C.

The move builds on "Tiger courage beats", a digital experience launched as part of the “Roar with courage” platform, which invites consumers to share personal stories of courage and transform them into personalised AI-generated 'courage songs'. Participants can choose their preferred genre, voice and language before sharing the resulting audio and visual formats on social media.

For Tiger, the festival is designed to take those individual expressions of courage beyond the screen and into a shared experience. “Courage can be deeply personal, but we also know that the people around us play an important role in helping us keep moving forward,” said Julie Kuan, marketing manager of Tiger Beer Malaysia.

“Tiger Courage Beats gave people a way to revisit a personal moment of courage and transform that story into something they could hear and share through music. The Tiger Roar Asian Music Festival takes that idea into a larger, shared experience, using music and culture to bring those expressions of courage together," she added.

Music was chosen as the common thread between the digital activation and the festival, according to Kuan, as it can both express something personal and create a sense of connection with others.

“The festival is the culmination of 'Roar with courage', turning the individual stories and expressions we have celebrated throughout the campaign into one bigger collective moment,” she added.

The connection between the two experiences will extend beyond the campaign narrative. Eligible participants who create songs through "Tiger courage beats" can receive access to the festival, subject to availability.

At the festival itself, selected participants will be given a platform to bring their stories to life by showcasing their craft, business or passion, alongside the moments of courage that brought them there. Interactive opportunities will also allow attendees to share and celebrate their own stories of courage.

The campaign has also expanded beyond the microsite, with Tiger using convenience stores, F&B outlets and eCommerce as additional routes into the festival experience.

“We wanted 'Roar with courage' to show up across the different places where consumers naturally engage with Tiger Beer,” Kuan said. “Tiger Courage Beats leads with personal participation, while convenience stores, participating restaurants, pubs and bars, and eCommerce extend the campaign into everyday consumer touchpoints.”

These touchpoints give consumers different ways to enter the campaign journey, whether through creating a 'courage song', participating through selected purchase mechanics or redeeming general admission passes through scheduled releases.

The strategy ultimately brings those different consumer journeys towards the same physical experience, rather than treating the digital activation, retail promotions and festival as separate campaign components.

Tiger will also measure the campaign beyond attendance at the festival, looking at engagement across its different touchpoints. This includes participation in "Tiger courage beats" and the number of courage songs created, engagement with campaign content, participation and redemptions across promotional channels, as well as conversations generated throughout the campaign.

"Beyond these metrics, success is about bringing Tiger Beer’s spirit of courage to life in a way that feels relevant and meaningful to consumers locally," added Kuan.

The “Roar with courage” platform builds on Tiger Beer’s longstanding “Uncage your Tiger” positioning, reframing courage as something that can show up in everyday moments rather than only acts of extraordinary bravery.

Created with LePub Singapore, the campaign’s global creative idea, “Your inner tiger is more powerful than you think”, uses the tiger as a visual representation of the inner strength people draw on when facing moments of hesitation, uncertainty or self-doubt.
