GSK names Malaysia business head

Global healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline has appointed Ramil Burden, as vice president, general manager for GSK Malaysia and Brunei.He takes over from Erum Shakir Rahim, with immediate effect as he moves on to take a new portfolio within GSK as general manager of Bangladesh.In his new role, Burden oversees the company’s operations and portfolio across the various therapeutic areas such as vaccines, respiratory and urology. Prior to his appointment, he was the vice president of Africa & Developing Countries with the portfolio of external affairs, communications, public health and access programmes for Africa. He was also responsible for GSK’s operations in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Papua New Guinea.Burden joined GSK in 2005. In 2008, he headed the CEO’s office and was appointed the head of corporate strategy and secretary to GSK’s Central Executive Team in 2010.Prior to joining GSK, he spent ten years in government relations, including two years as Trade and Policy Adviser to UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.“I am excited by the opportunity to lead the team here in Malaysia. We want to continue to build networks to create strong partnership with our stakeholders and deliver quality healthcare to help patients in Malaysia do more, feel better and live longer,” said Burden.
