Google to allow users to view advertiser's history with new page

Google is doubling down on transparency by enhancing ad disclosures with new advertiser pages. The tech giant said in a blog post that users can access these disclosures in its new "About this ad" menu to see the ads a specific verified advertiser has run over the past 30 days. For example, if users see an ad for a product they are interested in but do not recognise the brand, they can learn more about the advertisers before vising their site or making a purchase.

Additionally, users can more easily report an ad if they believe it violates one of Google's policies. When an ad is reported, a member of the team reviews it for compliance with Google's policies and will pull it if appropriate. Advertiser pages will launch in the US in the coming months and will roll out in phases to more countries next year. "Creating a safe experience is a top priority for us, and user feedback is an important part of how we do that," Google said in a blog post.

The company explained that enhanced ad disclosures build on its efforts to create a clear and intuitive experience for users who engage with ads on Google products. According to Google, more than 30 million users interact with its ads transparency and control menus daily and "About this ad" has received positive feedback.

This latest launch builds on its verification programme for advertisers which was rolled out last year. As part of the programme, advertisers will need to submit personal identification, business incorporation documents or other information that proves who they are and the country in which they operate. In 2018, it also introduced an identity verification policy for political advertisers, requiring those that want to run election ads on its platforms to go through a verification programme to confirm their identity.
