GOODSTUPH, Free Fire turn Indonesia's bullet train into record-breaking esports arena

GOODSTUPH Indonesia and Garena Free Fire turned Indonesia’s Whoosh high-speed train into a live-streamed mobile gaming arena - setting a national record in the process.

On 4 July, passengers on the first class carriage of the Jakarta-Bandung route witnessed what is now officially recognised by Museum Rekor-Dunia Indonesia (MURI) as the country’s first video production of a mobile game played onboard a high-speed train. With a livestream viewed over one million times on YouTube and millions more across social platforms, the activation marked Free Fire’s 8th anniversary with unprecedented flair.

It was a tightly orchestrated campaign that fused spectacle with cultural currency. The concept involved a clash squad battle between veteran “old players” and upstart “new players,” played by eight of Indonesia’s top gaming influencers - including household names such as Windah Basudara, MiawAug, Letda Hyper, and Sipit Gaming - with two live casters calling the shots mid-ride.

“We didn’t just board a train - we rewrote the rules of what mobile gaming events can look like,” said Kevin Jayadi, associate business director at GOODSTUPH Indonesia. “From planning to play, every second was engineered to prove one thing: that innovation doesn’t wait at the station - it moves.”

The campaign’s impact, too, was anything but stationary. It amassed over 6 million views across Free Fire Indonesia’s Instagram and TikTok, with an additional 4.5 million views generated from teaser drops by key opinion leaders. The livestream also secured a trending spot at #29 on YouTube Indonesia.

Crucially, it brought the world of mobile gaming - often relegated to small screens and solo play - into a new kind of shared experience, blending physical velocity with digital adrenaline.

“Turning a high-speed train into a live digital battleground wasn’t just a creative idea - it was a logistical, technical, and cultural milestone,” said Reza Putranta, head of marketing at Garena Indonesia. “GOODSTUPH brought that vision to life with the kind of daring precision we needed.”

GOODSTUPH Indonesia, established in 2017, is the Jakarta arm of the GOODSTUPH network. Meanwhile, Free Fire is a free-to-play battle royale game developed by Garena for Android and iOS, which became the world’s most downloaded mobile game in 2019.
