Flash Express Malaysia to shutter operations

Thai logistics and courier company Flash Express, is ceasing its Malaysian operations effective 31 January. In a Facebook post shared at the start of 2026, the company announced: "Our business in Malaysia will be permanently closed effective 31 January 2026. Thank you for your continued support over the years."

The announcement came shortly after a 29 December social media post by Easy Parcel was picked up by Lowyat.net, which detailed a revision in the cut-off date for Flash Express orders. According to the announcement, Flash Express Malaysia stopped accepting new shipment orders beginning 26 December, and customers were encouraged to rebook their parcel deliveries with other available courier partners on EasyParcel.

Flash Express' cash-on-delivery (COD) services were also cut-off from 24 December, and the courier would only commit to handling and delivering existing shipment orders created before 25 December.

Besides Thailand, Flash Express has also been present in Philippines and Cambodia. It most notably serves Shopee, Taobao and Lazada. According to a 2024 Lowyat report, Shopee had signed an MoU with the logistics provider alongside several others such as BEST Express, City-Link, GDEX and Ninja Van to enhance its delivery services across Malaysia, cementing the platform's on-time guarantee programme.

Popularly known as Thailand's first startup unicorn, Flash Express was founded in 2017 by CEO Komsan Lee and CTO Di Weijie, operating across all 77 Thai provinces. It offers free parcel pick-up from the first item, 365-day service, cash-on-delivery options, and a goods protection programme. Under the Flash Group umbrella, Flash Express also provides logistics, fulfillment, and financial services, positioning itself as a comprehensive eCommerce solutions provider.

In a Tatler interview mid-last year, Lee shared that although business was growing steadily, it was a time for internal consolidation instead of aggressive expansion. He added that Flash was going back to looking at the core of how they support consumers and the core of the service, and do those things more deeply.

Malaysia's last-mile delivery market is highly saturated, with strong players such as J&T Express, Pos Laju, Lalamove, DHL eCommerce, and Skynet in the playing field among the others mentioned prior. Based on an October 2025 report by Bernama, the Malaysian government shared that the local courier market was projected to reach between RM6.8 billion to RM6.9 billion this year, due to a surge in demand from the eCommerce sector.
