Empowering dreams: MegaBox transforms retail space into launchpad for young entrepreneurs

In today’s dynamic retail landscape, brands that lead are those that empower. MegaBox is stepping up to the plate — not just as a shopping destination, but as a catalyst for entrepreneurial transformation.

In support of the Hong Kong Housing Authority’s “Well Being · Start-Up 2.0” initiative, MegaBox partnered with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) to launch the “Youth Entrepreneurship Journey” programme, that is thoughtfully designed to equip Hong Kong’s aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools, training and retail environment they need to thrive.

From mall to incubator: A retail space rethought

As one of Hong Kong’s largest shopping malls, MegaBox has long been a hub for lifestyle and innovation. But with the “Youth Entrepreneurship Journey”, it is taking its brand promise further — transforming part of its retail space into a business incubator for youth-led start-ups.

Through training, mentorship, and real-market testing, the programme empowers entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 to turn ideas into viable ventures. After completing an intensive curriculum, selected teams test-run their businesses at MegaBox’s ninth-floor mobile booths every weekend and public holiday for three months.

“MegaBox has been actively striving to collaborate with different new brands and start-ups. We not only hope to support young entrepreneurs with potential, but we also believe that their innovative products and services can inject vitality into our shopping mall and the community, bring new experiences to consumers, and even advance the development of the retail industry,” said Victor Ng, senior director of MegaBox Development Company.

“The HKFYG has been supporting young people in starting and growing their businesses. We are proud to be part of their entrepreneurial journeys as they turn a new page and bring creative ideas to life. We must thank our generous business partner for sponsoring venues, which helps ease the burden on young entrepreneurs. Through the programme, we hope they will build resilience and adaptability, growing into real entrepreneurs,” said Hsu Siu-man, executive director of the HKFYG.

Retail as a springboard for purpose-driven brands

The programme’s series 1 saw over 25 teams apply, with seven winning start-ups selected to operate their businesses in MegaBox. Their ventures reflect Hong Kong’s creative pulse — from lab-grown diamonds made from hair (Helios Fine Jewelry) to pet fashion (Furri Tail) and zero-water detergent innovations (Esguard).

These start-ups aren’t just selling — they’re storytelling, tapping into values like sustainability, wellness, and personalisation. By integrating them, MegaBox aligns with next-gen consumer values and redefines the modern retail experience.

A brand strategy built on community and innovation

MegaBox goes beyond retail by offering outstanding teams rent-free pop-up stores or retail spaces for up to 12 months, complete with marketing support and basic fit-outs. It’s a long-term brand strategy focused on building community value and fostering innovation.

By turning physical space into opportunity, MegaBox sets a blueprint for purpose-driven engagement — actively supporting youth entrepreneurship rather than just advocating for it.

With Series 2 recruitment now open, the programme continues to cultivate fresh talent across four cycles, positioning MegaBox as a retail incubator for Hong Kong’s next generation of founders.

As traditional retail faces disruption, initiatives like this show that malls can do more than sell — they can shape futures.
