An inexpensive pocket fire extinguisher designed by DM9 Jayme Syfu has hauled in awards from June’s Cannes Lions Festival and last month’s Adstars in Korea.
The fire extinguishers were part of a campaign DM9 worked on for the city of Las Piñas during fire prevention month of March, which sought for a cost-effective means to equip families with fire extinguishers
At least 1,000 reported cases of domestic fire in Metro Manila every year takes place in the city, with low-income families being the hardest hit.
DM9’s solution was a portable fire extinguisher, comprised of a plastic sachet filled with home ingredients like vinegar and baking soda sealed in a small capsule. Breaking the capsule inside the pouch allows the materials to mix, producing a carbon dioxide-rich liquid that can snuff out flames.
The novel project won DM9 an Outdoor Bronze at Cannes and another Adstar Bronze in Public Service. In addition, DM9 Jayme Syfu’s general manager Ronald Barreiro shared that it spurred the interest from parties in Belgium and the US
“This idea lives up to our commitment to push creativity and technology for the good of humanity,” Merlee Jayme, chairmom and chief creative officer of DM9 Jayme Syfu.
