Returning for the third consecutive year, DDB Group Singapore has unveiled its The LampPost Project in line with the upcoming National Day. This year, the team at DDB upcycled and repurposed National Day banners and flags into tote bags that transforms into a sling bag and a pouch. The LampPost Project is an initiative by DDB Singapore to offer Singaporeans the opportunity to do their part in upcycling and give back to those in need. The DDB team worked with local citizens, residents of Singapore Association of Mental Health (SAMH) to craft the bags. According to the agency, profits are donated to the SAMH to help its residents rehabilitate and reintegrate into society.Since its launch in 2017, The LampPost Project has garnered support from both Singaporeans and organisations across the nation. DDB also said that the inaugural collection sold out within a matter of days. Sharon Goh, creative director at DDB Group Singapore, said that from the collection, sorting, and cleaning to the cutting, sewing, and selling, The LampPost Project is a collaborative effort uniting people across industries for a good cause. “We are really proud to continue our annual tradition of repurposing symbols of patriotism into practical everyday items. Singaporeans can now carry their national pride all year long,” she added.“We hope to continue and build on this fantastic initiative over the years to come. I urge all Singaporeans to join us in giving a new purpose to lamppost banners and flags and give back in the process. Go get your hands on one of them. It’s the cool thing to do!” Goh said.Last year, the LampPost Project comprised specially designed commemorative cotton T-shirts as well as reversible cloth tote bags to raise money for the less-privileged Singaporeans. In its first year in 2017, DDB partnered with Club21 to launch the inaugural range, which features simple, lightweight, practical and unique bags made from recycled lamppost banners and flags produced for National Day every year.
