Crunchyroll expands services to TW and South Korea

Anime platform Crunchyroll is expanding its service to Taiwan this summer and South Korea later this year, with new investment in content, localisation, marketing, and community, according to company president Rahul Purini.
The expansion strategy will deepen the anime ecosystem in these high-affinity markets and is a continuation of Crunchyroll's commitment to Asia over the last three years, most significantly India and Thailand.
Multi-generational fandom, mobile-first access, and community engagement spanning streaming, social media, theatrical releases, and conventions are defining the anime audience in Asia today.
Purini said the company saw tremendous opportunity in Taiwan and South Korea to better serve fans and grow alongside the vibrant communities. “We’re committed to bringing the right mix of content, accessibility, and local experiences to each market. Our focus is on earning fans’ trust every day by consistently delivering the experience they expect from Crunchyroll.”
“Asia is a priority for Crunchyroll because it’s home to some of the world’s most passionate anime communities,” Purini said. “Our ambition is simple: to be the best place for fans to experience anime, wherever they are. That means investing in great content, delivering it in ways that feel local and relevant, and creating experiences that deepen fans’ connection to the stories and characters they love.”
With Taiwan amongst its next markets for expansion, Crunchyroll said it will come with localised service planned in the summer. Taiwanese fans will have access to Crunchyroll's extensive catalogue and simulcast lineup as part of the platform's commitment to delivering the best anime experience to fans. Further details on the Taiwan launch will be announced later.
South Korea is another market with significant potential. With a highly engaged entertainment audience and a culture deeply connected to anime and broader Japanese pop culture, South Korea represents a compelling next step in Crunchyroll's Asia growth story.
Over the last few years, Crunchyroll has expanded its service in other parts of Asia. India has emerged as one of Crunchyroll's strongest growth markets globally, driven by a localisation strategy that is bringing anime into the mainstream.
In Thailand, Crunchyroll launched a fully localised service in February 2026 — including Thai-language UX, subtitles, and dubbed content — and has since seen 4x viewership growth, according to the company. Crunchyroll will be announcing its new season soon, with approximately 40 new simulcast anime titles arriving from Japan.
