A tweet from Cynthia Chan (A.K.A @cynthiamania) was an apt way to announce that Thomas Crampton will be joining Ogilvy PR as regional director of its Digital Influence practice.https://twitter.com/cynthiamania/statuses/1273392401Tweeting live from a Hong Kong Council of PR Firms event last night, cynthiamania let slip that Crampton, a respected digital media specialist and former correspondent for the International Herald Tribune and The New York Times, would be joining Ogilvy PR in a social media and digital role. Crampton later revealed via his blog that the tweet was indeed true and that he had signed up as regional director of Digital Influence 360 for Ogilvy PR Asia. The team, led by John Bell in the US, has been at the forefront of developing tools and techniques for companies embracing the social web, Crampton said."Everyone is looking to digital now as a solution for a lot of things," he told Marketing. From his base in Hong Kong, Crampton will oversee the Asia region spanning Sydney, Korea, Shanghai and Singapore."This role combines my two great passions: Asia and digital. I spent more than a decade reporting on Asia and the last five years immersed in digital. It also fits my objective in leaving newspapers: Build businesses using the revolutionary tools offered by the internet."The leak is not the first time Crampton has been scarred by social media. In June 2007, Crampton's marriage was nearly ended by a Facebook mishap. But was quickly corrected. He starts his new role with immediate effect.
