CHAGEE has launched its first signing store in Southeast Asia at the National University of Singapore (NUS), operated by deaf and hard-of-hearing baristas. The outlet, located at Yusof Ishak House, is part of CHAGEE’s push to reimagine the F&B experience while promoting inclusivity.

The store was opened in partnership with SG Enable and the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf).

The 135-square-metre tea bar features cork-lined interiors to soften noise, layered step seating to encourage interaction, and an open brewing area that keeps deaf and hard-of-hearing team members visually connected.

In addition, a flip chart wall introduces basic sign language to help customers engage with baristas. The space is anchored by a mural from deaf artist Chen Zi Yue (Angeline) and a photo showcase by deaf photographer Isabelle Lim.

To mark the launch, CHAGEE is offering curated bundles with limited-edition merchandise, with SG$2 from each bundle going to SADeaf. Collectible drink tags featuring common sign language phrases will also be distributed during the campaign.

The official launch was attended by senior parliamentary secretary for law and social and family development Eric Chua, who said: “An inclusive society is one where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Initiatives like the CHAGEE signing store remind us that accessibility is not just about infrastructure — it is about mindset and intent.”

“At CHAGEE, we believe a cup of tea brings people together — flowing across languages, communities, and cultures. With the signing store, we’re not only serving high-quality tea, but also championing connection, communication, and community," said Lawrence Wen, general manager of CHAGEE Singapore.

CHAGEE, which has more than 6,000 stores globally, runs its APAC operations out of Singapore. Most recently, it opened its first flagship store in Indonesia, located in Jakarta. The outlet debuted on April 11 with a tea bar experience that promised not just drinks, but a full-sensory experience rooted in culture, craftsmanship, and connection.
