Huawei's recentĀ  Y6 Pro national day promotion recently had consumers riled up for running out of stock, almost immediately after the promo was launched. Now, the president of Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) Lim Biow Chuan is calling out the brand in a Facebook statement for breaching theĀ Consumer Protection Fair Trading Act. In the post, he said that he hopes that the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore can issue "a public reprimand" of the company for the breach.Sharing how Huawei should not have advertised to "so many consumers" about the sale of the phone at a huge discounted price when it only has limited stocks, Lim said he had bought into the promotion initially like other consumers, thinking it was a good deal. He said:I think that such advertisement is misleading and has caused much inconvenience to many consumers. Public resources have also been wasted due to the police being called to manage the crowds.Meanwhile, he encouraged Huawei to take "appropriate action" to make amends to win back public support and goodwill for their company. "Otherwise, consumers in Singapore will always remember this incident with distaste and disappointment in the phone and technology giant," he said. The post has gained over 100 reactions and 26 shares within a day.[embed]https://www.facebook.com/lim.bc.9/posts/10157459786564099[/embed]Huawei'sĀ dealĀ saw it selling its Y6 Pro 2019 smartphone model at SG$54 instead of its retail price of SG$198. However, theĀ promotion which targetted those aged 50 and above, was cut short after the phone was sold out within hours. This disappointed many consumers who formedĀ snaking long queues at Huawei's stores. The overwhelming demand led Huawei to close 10 of its concept stores and service centres for ā€œsafety and securityā€ reasons for a period of time. The company has also apologised to fans on social media.Ā In a media statement sent toĀ Marketing, a spokesperson said it regrets the insufficient supply for the masses due to the "unprecedented surge of demand" for the handset.
