Blue Bottle reintroduces exclusive studio experience in HK

Global specialty coffee brand Blue Bottle Coffee has brought back its reservation-only coffee experience, “Blue Bottle Studio”, to Hong Kong after its debut in 2023.

Blue Bottle Studio represents the brand’s pinnacle coffee experience - a quiet, six-seat counter that distills coffee to its essence. Each studio embodies simplicity, craftsmanship, and sensory storytelling, with courses designed to showcase coffee's journey from leaf to flower to cherry to seed.

The studio was originally conceived in Kyoto in 2023 and has travelled to select cities as a limited seasonal residency, offering guests a rare opportunity to step into a world of coffee that goes beyond the everyday café experience.

From 1 to 26 October 2025, Blue Bottle Studio will return to Hong Kong at Blue Bottle Coffee Wan Chai café, welcoming coffee enthusiasts to a 90-minute, six-drink and two-sweets tasting journey curated by James Freeman, Blue Bottle Coffee founder and studio creative advisor, and Benjamin Brewer, senior director of global coffee experience to reflect on what coffee means today and what it could become tomorrow.

This year’s theme is “The future of coffee”, beginning with two rare and underappreciated species: Liberica and Excelsa. While Arabica has long defined specialty coffee, Blue Bottle Coffee believes the future of coffee is larger, more diverse, and more resilient than any one species alone.

Liberica represents the future of coffee with its drought resistance and complex flavours of blueberry and jackfruit, offering stability amid climate change. Alongside it, Excelsa adds a fruit-forward profile of guava and ripe banana, together showcasing a diverse and sustainable vision for coffee.

By inviting the guests to taste these lesser-known and resilient coffees, Blue Bottle Studio is sharing a quiet revolution in the cup - a great opportunity to experience flavours that are shaping the future of coffee.

The 2025 studio coffee course engages all five senses and immerses guests in the coffee life cycle, from leaf to cherry to seed. Highlights include a house-made instant coffee from Indian Excelsa, showcasing innovation, and a long cup flight of three single-origin coffees: Vietnamese Liberica with barley tea notes, Malaysian Liberica with tropical and floral hints, and Indian Excelsa with guava and banana sweetness. Each cup is brewed in front of guests, reflecting our pursuit of coffee's essential truth.

Each moment of the course reflects Blue Bottle’s omotenashi - thoughtful hospitality and meticulous attention to detail - turning every sip into an unforgettable experience.
