Astro's eGG Network jumps into the NFT universe

Astro' esports and gaming entertainment arm, eGG Network, has taken its first step into the NFT universe by partnering with Buddy Beater, a 2D animation multiplayer battle royale game by Singapore-based game studio Quinzy. Buddy Beater will officially launch in May 2022 and is designed based on a play-to-earn system on the Ethereum chain where players can have fun and earn at the same time. The game features four species: "Sapiens", "Beast", "Ancient" and "Mutant", each with the same aim of conquering the world they share.

From now until 25 April 2022, interested gamers can register for its waitlist to be given the opportunity to be part of the distribution of Buddy Beater avatars which are NFTs needed to participate in the game. According to eGG Network, a total of 18,888 avatars will be up for grabs, minted at 0.08 ETH (excluding gas fees) on 3 May 2022. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to eGG Network for additional information regarding this partnership.

Nicholas John, head of sports, Astro said: “We’re excited to take our first venture into the blockchain and NFT space through this partnership. The technology is at its infancy, and we see potential for it to grow while exploring it together with our gaming audience and talents through an entertaining game like Buddy Beater.” John was appointed to his current role in November last year, succeeding Lee Choong Khay.

Similarly, Quinzy's CEO Noppasorn Sansanee added: "We believe that Buddy Beater can grow big with the strength of our partners."

This is not the first time an NFT has been rolled out via a game. Last month, the International Olympic Committee rode the NFT wave with its " Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022" mobile game. In this multiplayer game, players participated and competed in a series of winter sports to earn Olympic NFT digital pins. The NFT digital pins can be traded on the nWayPlay marketplace, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands.

Developed by nWay in collaboration with the IOC, the game featured various arcade-styled winter sports where players could compete until a gold medal winner is crowned. According to Animoca Brands, owners of the Olympic NFT digital pins would gain exclusive access to higher tiers of play, which will feature greater rewards, and exclusive character skins.
