Ascensia Diabetes Care picks agency for digital marketing duties in MY

Ascensia Diabetes Care has picked WE! Interactive for its digital marketing efforts in Malaysia, primarily in social media. The appointment is for six months with the option for a one year retainer.

Ascensia was established in 2016 through the acquisition of Bayer Diabetes Care by PHC Holdings, formerly known as Panasonic Healthcare Holdings. It aims to improve the health and lives of people with diabetes.

In a statement to A+M, group managing director Matthew Lim (pictured centre) said a pitch for the account was held during August/September last year and it is the first time Ascensia is engaging an agency on a retainer basis for Asia Pacific.

According to him, WE! was chosen based on the strategy it proposed to drive Ascensia’s messages to its target audience as well as “the ability to think forward”. “While WE! has worked on many projects in Malaysia, this is our first direct client appointment for the market,” Lim said.

He added that the agency is “truly honoured” to be given the opportunity and to gain the trust of the team from Ascensia. “We hope to build on this relationship with the client and help it achieve its marketing goals,” Lim added.

The appointment comes after WE! recently expanded into Yangon and Bangkok. Among the list of clients it has worked with include SAP, Pepsi, Nike, Lay’s, Fitness First and Singapore Airlines.
