AmBank Group has unveiled a refreshed facade at its corporate headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, featuring what it says is the largest LED illustration by iconic Malaysian cartoonist, Mohammad Nor Mohammad Khalid, more commonly known as "Lat".
The vibrant visual, a reinterpretation of AmBank’s long-time camel mascot, now spans the glass exterior of Bangunan AmBank Group at Jalan Raja Chulan, a move that marks the bank’s 50th anniversary and revives a decades-long collaboration with the cartoonist.

Lat’s camel illustrations were first commissioned for AmBank’s product campaigns between 1984 and 1991, when the financial group was known as Arab-Malaysian. The updated artwork reintroduces the character through a digital format, bringing a nostalgic touch to the bank’s golden jubilee celebrations.
“Seeing Lat’s revamped camel light up our headquarters brings back so many cherished memories. The building has witnessed our growth and transformation, and this is a fitting tribute to that journey,” said Azman Hashim, chairman emeritus and honorary adviser of AmBank Group.
Standing 26 storeys tall, Bangunan AmBank Group is located at a key junction in Kuala Lumpur’s golden triangle and was first launched in 1987. The new LED installation capitalises on the tower’s prominent location to reinforce brand visibility while highlighting the creative roots of AmBank’s marketing legacy.
In line with the campaign theme Malaysia Kita, the bank also revealed that new illustrations by Lat will be rolled out in the coming weeks, capturing themes of unity, diversity, and togetherness. The initiative is part of a wider year-long celebration as AmBank commemorates its 50-year milestone.
Prior to the launch of the new camel illustration last night (29 April), Ambank also put out a public invitation for social media influencers with a minimum of 10K followers to join in on the campaign. According to Ambank's Instagram page, its partnership with the micro-influencers led to a series of collaborative posts, featuring the content creators posing alongside the iconic Bangunan AmBank Group building.
The posts promoted a "Pose your OOTD at Bangunan AmBank Group" photo contest which will run from 3 to 18 May this year, and teased prizes to be won which will be announced on AmBank's social media in the coming days.
The brightly lit LED installation at the front of Bangunan AmBank Group on Jalan Raja Chulan has been an iconic part of Kuala Lumpur's cityscape for several years, ingrained in the memories of city folk who have walked or driven past the placement before.
Revamping it in conjunction with the bank's 50th anniversary is a strategic branding move that bridges legacy with modernity, reinforcing AmBank’s identity while tapping into nostalgia to create emotional resonance with the public and long-time customers.
