AlipayHK has been cooperating with fresh markets since last year. After its introduction in the city, it has been attempting to become Hong Kong’s preferred method of payment.
There will be 30 fresh markets providing e-wallet service by the end of July, while in May the figure was only 18. Newcomers include Lok Fu, Tai Wo Hau, Tin Yan and others. Yau Ma Tai Market becomes the first public market using the service, the company stated.
The company announced that the e-wallet transaction counts of 2018 Q2 were 160% higher when compared to the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile year-on-year growth logged 16 times.
Also the number of cooperative retailers with AlipayHK has increased from 15,000 to more than 20,000 since 2018 May, showing the driven demand for e-wallets from Hong Kong retailers.
“These figures are great accomplishment from AlipayHK, thanks to our team, and support from every merchant and customer. AlipayHK will continue to focus on recruiting small and medium-sized businesses in Hong Kong, making Hong Kong residents’ lives more convenient, and allow people to use their electronic wallet worry-free,” said Jennifer Tan, CEO of Alipay Payment Services (HK) Limited.
