Every four years, Malaysians pack into pubs to catch the World Cup – beer in hand, neck tilted upward at a 45 degree angle and eyes glued to the bar’s television set.
For brands that target the male or sports loving audience, Stadium Astro has announced that it will be bringing all 64 live matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to all Astro Sports Pack customers.
Henry Tan (pictured, second from the left), chief operating officer of Astro, said that for the first time, the World Cup will be available on the TV screens at home as well as on laptops, tablets and smart phones anytime, anywhere via Astro On-The-Go.
“We know Malaysians love football, as the viewership for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa reached a high of 7.5 million.”
Besides the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Stadium Astro has also lined up sporting events next year – the Thomas Cup, Barclays Premier League,UEFA Champions League, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games – for its 3.7 million customers.
The month-long games start on 12 June and will broadcast on 10 dedicated channels in HD and SD as well as commentator in Bahasa Malaysia on Astro Arena.
