Zomato, a multinational restaurant aggregator, officially closed down its Philippines operations earlier this month.

The news was revealed to customers though a short message on its website that read "Goodbye Philippines. It has been a great run, but we have, sadly, stopped our operations here," Zomato added in its farewell message that users can still order food on Zomato in India and UAE where they are still operating.

The closure comes just over two years after Zomato stopped its pro membership program. Under the membership programme, only members of the restaurant aggregator could enjoy special benefits such as exclusive discounts and dine-in deals through an annual fee.

Yesterday, the company shut down its Indonesia operations as well, with the Indonesian website showing the same message as the Philippines’ one.

Zomato, which was founded in India in 2008, aimed to “connect customers, restaurant partners and delivery partners, serving their multiple needs”, as stated on its website.

Customers could search and discover restaurants, read and write customer generated reviews, view and upload photos, order food delivery, book a table, and make payments while dining-out at restaurants using the service.
